country of birth
Inducted into the Scotland Hall of Fame in 2018, Roy was something of a Scottish treasure. Capped 57 times for his National side he had huge success at Celtic (Glasgow) in the 70’s and 80’s. In all he won 6 titles, 5 Scottish Cups and 1 Scottish League Cup in his time north of the border. By the mid 90’s he had turned to a career in management, again north of the border, this time in a relatively short stint with Aberdeen. In his one full season he did manage to guide them to a Scottish Cup title however. His only time spent south of the boarder in his playing career was at Newcastle United, following those glory days in Glasgow. Playing 54 league games in two seasons he is quite fondly remembered by those who saw him, and his curly mop, play in black and white.
