The younger brother of club legend Shola, Sammy would never reach the highest of cult status his older sibling holds. In his 7 years at senior level at Newcastle Sammy would play 71 games, scoring just 4 goals as a winger, but only 29 of those would be as part of the starting XI.

At 6’3” his gangly frame never really filled out at Newcastle United, which was perhaps part of his problem, as he did show some moments of real promise. After being loaned out in three separate spells to lower league teams in England, he eventually moved on a free transfer to Bolton in 2017.

Unlike his brother Sammy was actually born in England. But Sammy took the opposite route Internationally, starting his youth career with Nigeria U20 before then moving on to England U21
