Many people will remember John for his analysis and commentary of Newcastle United on BBC radio Newcastle after retiring from football in the early 1990's. Anderson was quite a player for Newcastle in his own right however. He represented his country at every level, earning 16 full caps. He started his career at WBA, and although he played almost 100 times for the reserves he never did get a senior appearance. His break came at Preston, before being snapped in the same summer as Keegan's return. 10 years and a testimonial later, Anderson will be fondly remembered by those who saw him. Most notably perhaps for being part of that wonderful team that gained promotion with Beardsley, Keegan, McDermott and Waddle.
