Tino Asprilla was brought to Newcastle United by Kevin Keegan one during one of United's modern day golden periods. His signing in the January of 1996 was supposed to by the icing on the cake of a side that were powering towards the Premier League title. As everyone knows, that conclusion to the season didn't materialise, with Manchester United clawing back the title in their treble winning season. Asprilla, in the eyes of some, disrupting the side over those final months and contributing to the downfall. The truth is, in Tino, United had a diamond of a player. Skilful, enigmatic and as unpredictably brilliant as any player in a black and white shirt before or after his time at the club. In 1993 he had been voted the Worlds 6th best footballer, and it was easy to see why. The pinnacle of his time at Newcastle being a quite wonderful hatrick in a 3-2 win over Barcelona at St James Park.
