Joining from the south coast in 1906, a hat-trick on his debut in a 4-2 away win over Birmingham City would see him announce himself onto the scene at Newcastle in what would be a Championship winning season for the Magpies. He would go on to score twice in the Charity Shield also.
But despite an excellent goal return in his one full season for Newcastle he would be sold to Bradford for £250 just a later. He'd also go on to play for Fulham before returning to Southampton in his late career.
Tragically he would die aged just 50, having already suffered from a virus that had prematurely lead to his losing his sight.
