Joining Newcastle at the tender age of 14, Steven would be promoted to the fringe of the first team squad in the 99/00 season but would have to wait to the September fo the following season make his debut, having just turned 20.
Despite the great Sir Bobby Robson seeing enough in him to give him his debut, his time at the club was a bit of a mixed bag. At it's peak he cemented a place in the team and regular appearances in Europe. At its lowest point he Blackpool, Bradford City (twice) and Leeds.
He would eventually be released Newcastle in 2004 and snapped up by Sunderland.
He would play for a number of clubs before retiring following a spell at Toronto. A short career in broadcasting in Canada, before becoming assistant manager of Canada's National team for two years between 2019 and 2021.
