The Ireland International right back played four years at St James Park after Sir Bobby Robson bought him to the club in 2002.
Whilst Robson was to leave soon after it didn't effect his status in the team as new boss Graeme Souness stuck with Stephen.
He played in an FA Cup semi final and a QF of the UEFA Cup whilst at the club and was generally regarded with some fondness by the Newcastle faithful.
He eventually left the club whilst, under Kevin Keegan, the club decided not to renew his contract when it came to an end and he moved on to Birmingham, for whom he played over 100 games.
