Capped 4 times for Ireland, Rob was something of a fans favourite during his 9 years at Newcastle. Joining from Charlton in 2011 he represented the Magpies in Europe in the Europa League in his first season at the club he rivalled several famous names for the first choice keepers spot including Fraser Forster and Tim Krul before finally being pushed out permanently by the outstanding Martin Dubravka. That, and injury, meant he made no first team appearances in either of his last two season which famously included the 2019/20 COVID 19 season. Always a big character on and off the pitch, and engaging and supportive of the club and fans on social media, the announcement that he was leaving in 2020 was met with real heartfelt fondness across the fan base.
