Having joined the Magpies for just £1.6m in June 2014 he went on to play 179 league games for Newcastle United scoring 42 goals. His first goal for the club was against Spurs, away, a team he had some success against over the years. Whilst his contract was not due to expire until 2021, Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United cashed in on Perez just days after Rafa Benitez left the club. A move that further angered fans who watched on as all that the Spanish manager had created during his tenure was torn apart in a matter of hours by the Newcastle hierarchy. Perez had reached double figure in all of his last 3 seasons at the club, and in the 18/19 season had formed a formidable front line with new boy Almiron and the on loan Rondon. After 195 games for United, some of which he endured such vocal criticism that lead to his famous fingers in ears celebration, his time at the club is over.
