A Welsh International, Malcolm finished his career with a brief stint at Newcastle United. With competition for a place in the starting line up including Peter Beardsley and Andy Cole there was limited scope for a striker who also struggled with injury to get into the starting line up with any regularity. He eventually had to retire from football aged just 28. He was capped 14 times for his country, scoring 3 times.
