Not that many players get their big break and have the chance to force their way into a Newcastle United team over the years. So when you do it's a case of gabbing it with both hands. Having joined Newcastle from rivals Sunderland's youth set up, Jak had to bide his time for his break. It came with just 6 months left on his contract when he came on to replace the injured Rob Elliot in a win against Chelsea. Jak was only on the bench as Newcastle's other preferred keeper, Tim Krul, was also suffering with injury at the time. His run in the first team was short lived and certainly not one he will remember fondly. An unforced error allowing he opening goal in a Cup semi-final and conceding an injury time winner for his old team Sunderland the lowlights. A fit again Krul was immediately installed back in the first team and Jak was loaned out to Bradford City, before moving to Port Vale on a permanent deal that summer.
