Thomas was born in Durham and came to Newcastle as a boy. Playing only twice for United he moved to West Ham where he managed 18 games before finishing his career at FC West Stanley. His biggest claim to fame being he was in the first team to ever play at West Ham's spiritual home, Upton Park
