Dan was born in Gateshead, and after starting his career with Swalwell Juniors he moved to the Newcastle United academy in 2006, aged just 9.

Daniel would make good early progress with the Newcastle youth system and, through duel nationality by virtue of the fact his farther is Turkish, made his international debut for the Turks at 15 years old. Playing 9 times for the U16s and a further 6 times for the U17s.

In 2017, under Rafa Benitez, Daniel was given his first games for the Newcastle United first team. Both in the FA Cup, with one win against Birmingham followed by defeat against Oxford. By this time he'd also change national shirts, with a call up to the England U18s resulting in 2 appearances for the Three Lions.

Spells out of loan followed at Crewe, Accrington and Rotherham as the Magpies continued to hold his registration with a contract extension in 2019.

In 2020 Barlaser finally left Newcastle United, going back to Rotherham, this time on a permanent basis for a fee of £250,000.
