Barrowclough would spend almost a decade at Newcastle United throughout most of the 70's.
Moving from Barnsley for a then club record on £40,000 he was an instant success at United. And whilst the energetic winger would miss out on the FA Cup final defeat to Liverpool he did make the 1976 League Cup Final, only to suffer the same outcome.
Scoring a total of 27 goals for the Magpies, the diminutive winger was a firm favourite amongst those who saw him play in black and white. Eventually leaving the club in 1978 in a deal that saw Newcastle net £200,000 and the return of Terry Hibbitt.
His form at Newcastle United saw him called up 5 times for England U23s, scoring once, although he would never quite make the breakthrough to the full England setup.
