Famed for being the first goalkeeper to save a penalty in an FA Cup final, that Final would also be Beasant's last game for the Crazy Gang of Wimbledon who famously overcame all the odd to lift the trophy that day against Liverpool.

He signed for Newcastle that summer but his stay at St James Park would be brief as the 1988/89 season for Newcastle would be something of a disaster. United were struggling to cope with the loss of Paul Gascoigne to Spurs and within two month manager Willie McFaul fell on his sword and the incoming Jim Smith could do little to reverse the fortunes of the side, who eventually finished bottom that season.

Out went Beasant, who moved on to Chelsea where he played for three full seasons and walked straight into their first team, in came the little known Tommy Wright for his first of two spells at the club.

Beasant was capped twice for England and would also play for no less than 16 different teams during his professional career, some more than once in different spells with 18 transfers in total over a 36 year career.
