Paul's career was on the up when he helped Swindon to win the Second Division playoff final in 1990, making the 'Team of the Season' in the process.

A big money move (£500k) to Crystal Palace was his reward, but after failing to impress he was loaned out the Newcastle United, who were equally uninspired.

A cut price return to Swindon followed and he would go on to make over 150 appearances in his second spell at the club, making the full Wales team in the process.

Paul would also make a decent fist at management, including a caretaker spell in charge of 'his club' Swindon, and a permanent residency at Bath City but also at National level with both Wales U19 and U21 teams.
