A right back who would occasionally get a starting birth further up the pitch and even at centre half in his time, Darren was signed by Jim Smith in 1989 and stayed with the Magpies for three seasons.

His time with the Magpies would almost certainly be the pinnacle of his career from the 'level' of football perspective, although he would also enjoy spells at Peterborough and under Sam Allardyce at Blackpool.

Indeed he would play for 11 clubs in total over a 19 year career that began and ended in non-league, with Matlock Town and Belper Town respectively.
