Martin played just 1 league game for Newcastle United, although played 8 games in total after making his debut under Sir Bobby Robson in the UEFA Cup against Valerenga.

But his career would never his the highest of his early promise and he would be moved on in 2006 after not being offered a new contract.

He would play for several lower league clubs in the North East with Gateshead being the club he played the most games for, 80 in fact, over three years.
