Martin would be something of a stalwart between the sticks in the North East of England in a career that would span over 20 years.
Playing on 11 league games for Newcastle United he was only ever going to get a run in the team when legendary Magpies 'keeper Willie McFaul was injured or unavailable. A fact that saw him move on quickly, first on loan and then permanently to Darlington.
He would also play for Carlisle, Darlington (again), Hartlepool, Bishop Aukland and Spennymoor.
He would work as a painter and decorator upon his retirement.
