Butt was a player of Manchester United fame. A midfielder who played along side Roy Keane in a Red Devils midfield that would dominate English football through the 90's and early 00's. Wining 6 titles, 3 FA Cups and a Champions League in Manchester his time at Newcastle would not yield any silverware of course. He was bought in 2004 by Sir Bobby Robson and was a shrewd piece of business to replace the ageing Gary Speed who'd left for Bolton. His early time at the club was marred by injury and by the time he was fit again the then manager Graeme Souness had brought in Amdy Faye to play in his spot. A loan spell for two seasons at Birmingham ended when he was dropped from the squad in favour of the managers son - the manager - Steve Bruce no less. He returned to Newcastle and eventually made a place in the side his own although couldn't stave off relegation in 2008/09. He was made Captain the following season, eventually lifting the Championship trophy under Chris Hughton before announcing his retirement from the game. He was capped 39 times by his country.
