A stunning footballer (in every way ;-), Yohan is one of those who holds cult status with many Magpies fans. Not least because of his critical role in a half decent Newcastle United team, something of a rarity during the Mike Ashely years, but primarily for his winning goal at Old Trafford in front of thousands of traveling Geordies in 2013, Newcastle's first win at that stadium for 41 long years.
In a glittering career he would win three French league titles, and two each of the French domestic cups. The only surprise is that he did not win more silverware as a key member of the French team (48 Caps) and with a spell at PSG.
His move to Newcastle was part of the 'French Revolution' which even saw French flags appearing around SJP and even a 'France Day', such was the focus by the Newcastle United scouting team on the French transfer marker at the time.
He was a chance creator as more than he ever was a finisher, with Cisse and Ba both benefitting hugely from his talents to be able to pick a pass and read the game. He also had a wicked set piece in his armoury (see his goal in a 3-0 win against Manchester United as just one such example).
A goal against local rivals Sunderland (a 1-1 draw) only enhanced his reputation on Tyneside, but it was his winner at Old Trafford that will live the longest in the memories of most black and white fans.
Such was his quality, Newcastle had to fight off a bid in 2013 for his service from Arsenal. 6 months later he was sold to PSG for around double that fee.
