Ralph played a total of just 9 games for Newcastle United in a brief spell south of the border.

Having spent 4 years at Hearts, playing almost 100 games, he moved to the Magpies in 1977 spending just one season on Tyneside.

He immediately returned north of the border, this time to Hibs (Hearts local rivals) where he played over 200 games.

He finished his career with Berwick at player/manager.
