On the 13 June 1991 Osvaldo Ardiles brought Franz Carr to Newcastle United in a deal worth £250,000. Carr, who'd not made the grade at his then club Nottingham Forest, had spent loan periods at Sheffield Wednesday and then West Ham United before the Magpies picked him up.
A nippy and full of verve winger, Franz was something of a fans favourite in the two years he spent at the club. Always a willing runner, pace would be his greatest asset. An injury early in his Newcastle career would stifle his opportunities however and by the time he was match fit again a certain Kevin Keegan had taken over at the club and had his own ideas on what the Newcastle midfield should look like.
When Carr left in 1993 he was replaced by a certain Rob Lee. The rest, as the say, is history!
Carr was capped 9 times for his country. All at U21 levels between 1986-1988, scoring once.
