The lad from Carlisle played 33 league games for Newcastle United having joined from Derby in 1925.
Having payed over 200 times for Derby his stint on Tyneside was relatively short before he tumbled down the leagues before finishing his career with Queen of the South where he made just one appearance.
He was a dynamic right back however, well respected by his peers, and would contribute significant to the Newcastle cause during his stay with the club.
Bert also served in the Border Regiment during the First World War.
