A European Cup winner in his last ever professional game with Nottingham Forest under Brain Clough, Frank had joined Forest directly from Newcastle United in 1975 on a free transfer having spent 13 years with the Magpies.

Frank was a fantastic servant at Newcastle United, a competent and committed left back he was in the Fairs Cup winning side of 1969. He was however pretty much 'booed' out of the club towards the end of his career, a scapegoat for a team not firing on all cylinders. How foolish those 'fans' must have looked two years later as his lifted Europe's most illustrious trophy (and two League Cups to boot). Just goes to show, there have always 'been a few' in every era.

An assistant manager at Sunderland and a managerial stint at Leyton Orient were all really just training for the big job, a return to Forest, this time as manager. He proved more than capable and turned hero once more as he guided them to promotion in his first season and a place in the Premier League.

He would never be capped by his county.
