James was a nippy forward who played a total of 53 games for Newcastle* during his short time on this earth.
Starting his career at non-league Shawfield Athletic he moved to Newcastle East End in 1988 and would have two spells at the club, with two seasons at Nottingham Forest sandwiched in between (playing 40 times and scoring 15 goals in those two season).
James would unfortunately die of tetanus aged just 27 after cutting himself on a piece of flint during a game between Chatham and New Brompton.
*Jimmy was in the rarest of company to have played for all of Newcastle East End, Newcastle West End and Newcastle United upon its formation in 1892.
