For those who saw him play, Carl Cort was something of an anomaly. Remembered fondly as a striker who scored within minutes of his debut he always looking the real deal when on the pitch for the club and one who could potentially go on to great things.
He'd impressed for England and U21 level and had built a great reputation at Wimbledon, with his sizeable frame and ample pace.
But his time at the Magpies was literally destroyed by injury after injury. Hamstring after hamstring.
A real shame for the player and the club.
He would move to Wolves and have some better luck, playing over 100 times over three seasons, before doing something of an end of career tour which included gigs in Spain, the US and in England.
The half brother of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and with brothers who also played at professional and non-league level we never did get to see if he was a thoroughbred or not. Shame!
He would play fourteen times for the England U21 team, scoring eight goals, a sign of his talent. But after his injuries and with and England call out of reach he would turn to Guyana for his full national caps, playing six games for their full team but not scoring.
