David was part of the 1969 Inter City Fairs Cup winning side that was the last to win a major trophy at the club until the 'curse' was broken by the class of 2025 some 56 years later.

He played an astonishing 434 times for the club, with all by six of those appearances being as a starter with him nailing down the right back position at the club for sixteen years, following two years in the Magpies youth set up.

Described as the 'model professional' during his time at the club it was easy to see why has was such a stalwart of the Newcastle United side of that time. Reliable, a good character and a more than capable at club and international level as he made 25 full caps for Northern Ireland.
