Ryton born Derek Malcom Craig played just 2 times (neither of them in the league) for the Newcastle United first team having come through the youth ranks at the club and having spent six years at the club in total.

He'd move to the States to play for San Jose Earthquakes in 1975, but that stint would not last long either and he'd return to the UK that same year to sign professional forms at Darlington where he's have a far more successful spell, playing over 200 times in all completions over a five year spell.

He's finish his professional career at York City, again playing regularly before moving to non-league Brandon United in Durham.
