A local lad who’s major honour with Newcastle United was an FA Cup winners medal (1951) playing in his usual position of left half.

Born in Walker he'd spend a total of 13 years at the club as a gritty and determined 'left half'. With almost 200 appearances in total in the current era he'd have two more FA Cup winners medals, as back then you only got a medal if you played in the final and he'd not be selected for the 1952 win and would miss the 1955 win due to injury.

He briefly managed Egypt before being forced home due to the Suez Crisis.
