da Silva 'Mirandinha'
2 Jul 1959
Ah, the little man himself. He's not from Argentina mind, oh no, he's from Brazil, and was rather brill (or something like that :-)
Mirandinha certainly brought some South American flair with him to Newcastle United. Indeed he will always have the honour of being the first Brazilian ever to play in English football history.
Playing two full seasons for the Magpies he was a firm crowd favourite. And whilst not the greatest player to ever come from Brazilian shores, he was a breath of fresh air with his running a dribbling ability.
There would even be a trip to Wembley. OK, so only for the Mercantile Credit Centenary Trophy, but at least he can say he's played there in black and white.
With, at last count, 15 changes of clubs and 24 different managerial posts, he certainly didn't shy away from a challenge either.
He played 4 times for his nation. Scoring once, against England.
