Signed by Alan Pardew, and immediately installed as club vice captain, Siem (brother of Netherlands striker Luuk) had put pen to paper on a 6 year deal.
Newcastle never did see the player Pardew thought he was signing however. Indeed after only playing a handful of games following his debut at the end of August 2014, he pulled up in training the following month. An injury that saw him out of action for 6 months. His return the following February was followed by a further two months out with a collapsed lung.
Indeed our resident sick-note was lucky not to lose an eye in a freak accident that saw a contact lens pushed into his eye that had him out for another spell.
Just 1 goal in 22 league games then, and off he would pop 3 years after signing with the club making a £5m loss on the player.
Not Newcastle, or Siem's finest hours!
