Sylvain was something of the stereotypical Frenchman when it came to his career. Having elevated his career to the point of playing for PSG following several moves around France, he came on loan to Newcastle United under Sir Bobby.

Demanding to be paid on a par to a few of the then stars at St James Park he would however end up going to Manchester City instead as the Magpies refused to bow to his demands.

He'd spend five decent years at City before letting his contract run down and getting a big move to the then 'splash the cash' Portsmouth under Harry Redknapp where he'd win the FA Cup, before the club realised they were living way beyond their means and he moved for £5m to Everton.
