George Eastham OBE played over 120 league games for Newcastle United between 1956 and 1960.
He'd moved to Newcastle from Ards in Northern Ireland where he'd started his career despite being born in Blackpool.
His time at Newcastle would be an interesting run. He'd score a clutch of goals during his time but eventually fell out with the club over a dispute over unpaid bonuses. The case would eventually go to court and the judge would rule in his favour, also allowing his to exit to Arsenal with his relationship with the Magpies clearly stretched beyond breaking point.
He would go on to play for Arsenal and Stoke City and gain 19 full caps for England. For his county he'd be part of the 'squad' for the 1966 England World Cup win but would not play in the game. As such he would not receive a winners medal as on the XI on the pitch received medals at that time. He would be awarded a winner medal some years later however (in 2009) with FIFA having changed their rules to give medals to all squad members in the intervening years.
