As a young man David excelled at a number of sports and it is widely accepted he'd have had a great chance of playing in the National Hockey League. He was an outstanding runner at school level at middle and longer distances but his passion was football and he would take the journey from the provisional leagues to London City in Canada.

His move to Newcastle was helped by the fact his grandmother lived in the region as he rejected several other offers to join the Magpies.

He'd play through he ranks at Newcastle before making his debut in 2006. However the Canadian would fail to make a regular place his own and he'd move on to Burnley in the search to regular first team action.

He'd be a game short of 100 league appearances for Burnley in a far more successful spell.

Another 10 professional clubs would appear on his 'played for' list across the UK the USA and Canada.

David would have a four year spell as manager or Forge in Canada's top tier,

David dad, Eddie, played once for Newcastle United in 1976
