Born in Malmo, Sweden, Anthony David Junior Elanga joined Newcastle United in July 2025.
He became the first first team player to sign for the Magpies for almost two years after well publicised Profit and Sustainability Rule (PSR) challenges that had plagued the club in pervious windows.
Signed from Forest for £52m he was an established Swedish International having represented his club at U17, U19, U21 and Full International level at the time of joining. Had things worked out differently on the last day of the previous session he may well not have joined Newcastle with Forest themselves only narrowly missing out on a Champions League place themselves.
As it would transpire it was Newcastle who would snatch the 5th and last remaining Champions League place with manager Eddie Howe looking to strengthen a thin squad ahead of a second CL campaign in three seasons.
Elanga started his career with IF Elfsborg before joining his home town Malmo and then moving to England with his family in 2014. The change of country would see him have a short spell at Hattersley but he was soon spotted by Manchester United scouts who took him to Old Trafford the following year aged just 13.
He would stay with the Red Devils for eight years with the last two years of his spell their seeing him play for the senior squad, including in the Champions League.
Forest would sign him for £15m where he'd play a key role in their transformation from relegation fodder to a European place team. With lightning pace and eye for an assist and a goal he'd be a welcome addition to Newcastle United and real competition for Jacob Murphy who'd had a tremendous season in 24/25.
