Jose was a promising Spanish footballer, who whilst spending nine years in the Premier League with first Newcastle United and then Liverpool will perhaps rue not quite achieving this heights he'd have liked, certainly at international level.

Born in Valencia, Spain, he would get to play for his boyhood club after stating his career at Lavente B. Moving to Valencia he would be immediately loaned out to Celta where he would make his top flight debut before returning to his parent club for a season.

His big break would then follow as in August of 2007 he moved for €6.3m to Newcastle United on a 5 year contract. He would go on to be voted Newcastle United player on the season in 2009-10 also being named int he PFA team of the season that year in a promotion season.

And whilst a breakthrough to the full International side avoided him, another big move in the Premier League did not as in August 2011 he moved to Liverpool for £6m. Something of a steal.

He would go on to win the FA and League Cup for Liverpool before eventually being sold to Zaragoza in 2016, where he played for a single year.

Post his footballing career Jose would appear on TV and radio as a pundit, seemingly being Newcastle or Liverpool's biggest fan, depending on who he was commentating on that day.
