A strong and silky left-half, Willie joined the club from Ayr in 1923.

Willie would play for one of the more successful Newcastle United sides / generations. Indeed he would retire at Newcastle United with one FA Cup winners medal (1924) and a League title (1927).

Unlike his father Neil (14 caps) and one of this two footballing brothers James (8 caps) he would not be capped for his country. He was however an integral part of Newcastle United's trophy winning history.
