Starting his career with Liverpool (3 appearances), Danny would have reasonably successful loan spells at both Southampton and more so Bolton before sealing a permanent move to Newcastle United in the July of 2008.

He scored twice in pre-season against Hartlepool and then PSV Eindhoven before making his competitive debut in a 1-1 draw away to Manchester United. He was sent off again Hill in that September, having inflicted a broken leg on Craig Fagan. He scored his first goal for the club in the December in a 3-0 away win against Portsmouth.

He would play regularly the following season too, in the most part partnering Nicky Butt due to a long term injury to Joey Barton.

In the season 2009/10 too he was a regular, as one of a number of United players who'd stayed at the club following their relegation, and helped the Magpies back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

But with the arrival of Tiote and Kevin Nolan his appearances would start to become less frequent and eventually he would leave the club in 2012 to newly promoted Reading.

As well as playing for a number of other clubs in England (most notably Blackburn) he would also have spells playing in Indonesia and in Iceland.

The player filed for bankruptcy in 2022 having racked up a number of personal and gambling debts.
