One of the most bizarre spells for any player at Newcastle United is undoubtedly that of Loris Karius.

And but for a single Premier League appearance in Feb 24 in a 4-1 loss against Arsenal, Loris would have had the dubious honour of playing only once for United, with that appearance being at Wembley in the League Cup Final in 2023.

Karius only played in the final as regular goalkeeper Nick Pope had inexplicably handled the ball outside his area a few days earlier in a League game against Liverpool. An action that would see him banned for the final. And in another twist that had seen regular back up keeper move to Manchester United on loan that season (Newcastle's opponents in the Cup Final that day), Loris made his only appearance of that season.

There would be not heroics however as United would lose the final to Manchester United 2-0.

Bizarre!
