Anyone who rocks up on his Newcastle United league debut and hammers in the winner against Manchester United in a 1-0 win in front of the Gallowgate has got themselves off to a flyer!

That's how Matty announced himself at the tender ago of 19. He'd made his first team debut just weeks beforehand, in the EFL cup against Leicester. But in front of the watching nation he smashed in a cracker from outside the box after lovely work from the on-loan Willems on the Newcastle left.

In the COVID hit summer of 2020 he almost left the Magpies, having been at the club as a schoolboy. However he signed a new 2 year deal that summer keeping at the club with his big brother Sean for another spell.

Following the Saudi led takeover of the club in 2022 chances became few and far between for the youngster who, unlike his brother, could not force his way in the Eddie Howe's long terms plans.

A six month loan spell at Mansfield followed, as did another for the full following season at League 2 Colchester United where he would have a mixed time before a horror injury would end his season in the December of 2022.
