After being promoted to Newcastle's senior squad in 2016 Sean was loaned out to Kilmarnock and then Blackpool for some first team experience.

But after getting his chance to play for his boyhood club just a couple of season later on his return he'd start to get a regular place in the side under Rafa Benitez. His competitive debut came that same season against Forest in the EFL Cup that August.

Something of a regular (with intermittent injuries) in the seasons that followed his opportunities would diminish once more after the PIF Saudi takeover with investment in the centre of the part a priority for the new owners and manager (Eddie Howe). That, and the unleashing of Joelinton as a midfield rock, would mean he'd be pushed to a regular on the bench.

That said, he's have three moments in particular that will live long in the memories of those who saw him in black and white.

The first was a brace in an EFL Cup Semi Final against Southampton at SJP in a 2-1 that would see them through to a final in January 2023 (losing to Manchester United in the Final).

The second would be the second of four goals Newcastle scored after their long awaited return to the Champions League in October 2023.

The final, and perhaps the most important, was him scoring the winning penalty in a first round penalty shootout at Forest in the 2024/25 EFL Cup. The competition that Newcastle United would go on and win, the first domestic trophy in 70 years. (Longstaff being stripped to come on as a substitute at Wembley only to see Emil Krafth come on in his place with Liverpool getting a late goal back and Howe shoring up the defence).

A Cup winner. A Champions League scorer. Over 200 games for the Magpies.

Fondly remembered if not of the calibre of some other at the club during his time at the club.
