Some would argue Jackie Milburn is the greatest player ever to have pulled on the famous black and white stripes of Newcastle United. An unassuming man, Jackie won three major trophies with the Magpies in the form of FA Cups in 1951, 1952 and 1955. Jackie scored 75 goals in those three seasons alone. A total of 200 club goals only being overtaken by Alan Shearer in 2006, whilst his record of 'league' goals for Newcastle still stands and may never be broken at 177. His record at International level was also outstanding, scoring 10 goals in 13 games. It seems something of a crime that he didn't get more opportunity at National level. A Freeman of Newcastle City, Jackie Milburn rightfully has his statue outside St James Park and the Main Stand also bears his name. A little known fact is that Milburn also played two games for rivals Sunderland during the war due to player shortages. He, of course, didn't score in either game.
