Nick Pope signed for Newcastle as a current England International in the summer of 2022.

With the club entering its first summer transfer window under the new Saudi owners, recruitment and the strengthening of the Newcastle United first team and squad was very much on the menu. And having seen Trippier (RB), Targett (LB) and both Burn and Botman (BC) all arrive in the pervious winter and that summer window it was the turn of the goalkeeping department to get a makeover.

With Martin Dubravka the established number 1 at the club it was a little surprising to some that Nick was signed from newly relegated Burnley. Although with Martin having suffers a long spell out injured in the previous campaign, and with Darlow and Woodman not deemed of the quality required to compete at the 'right end' of the table, the signing certainly seemed to make sense to many other onlookers.

Nick had spent 6 years at Burnley prior to signing, and had been capped 6 times by his country at the point of signing for the Magpies, aged 30.
