Corner flag kicking Matt Ritchie would have an eight year spell at Newcastle United during one of the most turbulent periods in the clubs history. From relegation during the Mike Ashely reign to Champions League football under Eddie Howe and the new Saudi majority owners he would see both ends of the pain and gain spectrum.

Bought by Rafa Benitez he would also be a regular under Steve Bruce after the Spaniard left the club.

It would take Ritchie just 3 games to score his first goal for the club, a penalty, after joining from AFC Bournemouth. He would score 25 times for the club in total during that eight year stay.

At international level he would play 16 times for the senior team, scoring three.

A good servant to the club and part of the 'leadership group'. Whilst he may not be remembered as the most gifted of players, his heart, determination and attitude could never be questioned.
