Salomon started his career in his native Venezuela playing 49 games for Aragua and scoring 15 goals. His talents prompted a move to Spain and Las Palmas aged just 19 where he would also prove a big hit in his second season scoring 10 goals in 36 games for a side that only just managed to avoid relegation. A spell at Malaga followed before his first big move, this time to Russia and Rubin Kazan for for €10m. After two years at Kazan he'd move to another Russian side, Zenit, again proving a huge hit scoring 20 goals in 37 league games. His move to the Premier League came courtesy of West Brom who paid £12m for his services in 2015. Injuries would strike and the player could do little to help the Midlands club avoid relegation in 2018. This opened the door for his loan move to Newcastle United, and after a slow start he would become something of a goal scoring hero in Rafa Benitez relegation threatened side. And by the time his season was over he would score 12 goals (one behind leading scorer Perez) in 33 games, also making 7 assists. HIs dominating style was a telling factor for United during this season allowing Perez and new record signing Almiron space and time to impress. With Rafa leaving at the end of the 18/19 season, with it went any chance of securing his services long term. Indeed Rondon would join his manager in China for the start of the 19/20 campaign.
