Allan Saint-Maximin joined Newcastle United from Nice in 2019 as part of the changing of the guard following the appointment of Steve Bruce.

His signature happened on the same day as Jetro Willems joined on loan and just a week after Jeolinton joined on a club record £40m deal. Saint-Maximin was well known as one of the most exciting prospects in France. With flair, skill and pace the forward is also famous for a Gucci headband and a celebratory dance or two.

His time at Newcastle United would not disappoint. In one of the darkest spells of Newcastle's history, that of the ownership of Mike Ashley, and one that saw nothing but misery and multiple relegations from the top flight, he was something of a lone bright spark.

For a while in fact, Newcastle's strategy was no more than, get 9 players and the goalkeeper behind the ball and kick it to ASM.

As bright on Twitter as on the field, handing out Rolex watches to fans after games, the protagonist for the infamous penicopter celebration... What a player, what a man.

He will be remembered but all that saw him as the typical French mercurial footballer. Sometimes genius. Sometimes frustrating. Always entertaining.

His sale to the super rich Saudi League was as much to do with Newcastle having to work under strict financial rules as for football reasons, although in truth his style would have been tough to fit into Eddie Howe's hard running, hard working team.

Gone, but he'll always be welcome on Tyneside.
