Ki Sung-yueng never really made the grade a Newcastle United. Picked up on a free after his contract expired at relegated Swansea he was signed by Rafa Benitez as a squad player in June 2018 on a two year contract. After making on 23 appearances in total for the Magpies his contract was terminated with just 6 months left in the January of 2020 with both the club and the player agreeing it was time for him to leave the Magpies.
