Born in Alnwick, Kelland started his career with Cramlington Jnrs. He soon caught the eye of the Newcastle scouting team however and moved to the United academy at just 9 years old.

Kelland had a number of spells out on loan, including at Mansfield, Stevenage and Plymouth.

His debut for Newcastle senior team came on the final day of the COVID hit 2019/20. With no fans in St James Park, Kelland came on to replace Danny Rose against newly crowned Champions Liverpool in a 3-1 loss.

He would have loan spells at a host of clubs (Stevenage, Mansfield, Plymouth, Wigan and Peterborough) with his contract coming to an end on the final day of his last loan spell with Peterborough
