Weekly Roundup

Monday 18th January

Rumours gathered that Newcastle were on the verge of signing Andros Townsend (see player profile here) and Saido Berahino (see player profile here). The rumours may have been true but after a week of 'behind closed doors' talking Newcastle are no nearer landing these or any further recruits it would seem.

Tuesday 19th January

NUFC confirmed that fans had taken all 2,100 tickets for the coming trip to Watford.

Wednesday 20th January

Deloitte published their annual report on football finances, with apparently good news in Newcastle United raising to the 17th richest club in the world. Our report here however shows the alarming and hidden truth behind the report, and how there are dark clouds on the horizon for NUFC.

Thursday 21st January

A change in two additional fixture dates and times was announced as both our away game against Leicester and our home game against the Mackems were moved for TV coverage. You can see an up to date list of fixtures here.

Good news for ex Mag and local hero Kevin Nolan who was handed his first job in management as he took over as player manager of Sky Bet League 2 side Leyton Orient.

Friday 22nd January

More injury woe for a Newcastle player with news that Ivan Toney is ruled out after suffering ligament damage in training. It is thought the player will be out for around 12 weeks meaning it is likely he won’t feature again this season.

Saturday 23rd January

Watford 2-1 Newcastle United. Our match report for Watford can be seen here, with goal highlights, stats and more.

Elsewhere in the Premier League the Mackems and Bournemouth played out a draw. Whilst somehow Norwich threw away 3 points and then in injury time 1 point at home against Liverpool.

Sunday 24th January

Bad news for Newcastle as Swansea picked up all 3 points away for Everton. The current league table and many more stats can be seen here

Elsewhere, on loan missfit Remy Cabella made his mark on Lyon’s first ever game in their new 59,500 seater stadium, the Stade des Lumieres, built as part of the investment by several clubs in France who will be hosting games in the European Championships. Cabella scored first for Marseilles in a 1-1 draw.

The week ahead

With Newcastle having no fixture in the week ahead or this weekend focus must turn to preparing for Everton away next Tuesday and West Brom the weekend after. Attention will also need to be given to our physio room in search of a fit left back and hopefully to the transfer market with a proven striker desperately needed.

Newcastle U21’s play twice this week, probably allowing game time for the likes of Aarons and hopefully a well again de Jong.
